The duties of a County Counselor are contained
in K.S.A. 19-247 and K.S.A. 19-716. The County Counselor
is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners, and is not an
elected official. The County Counselor serves as legal
counsel to the Board of County Commissioners, attends the
meetings of the board, and gives advice upon legal questions
that arise, assist the board on all legal matters referred,
represents the county generally in matters of civil law, draws
contracts and other papers required by the board, examines and
approves bills presented for payment, and provides legal advice
to county department heads and to elected officials. County
Counselor is not responsible for prosecution of traffic or
criminal cases, those functions performed by
Neosho County
Attorney's Office.
